Tips for Choosing and Using a Replacement Charger
Always match the voltage to your original charger exactly, and make sure the magnetic connector aligns properly and clicks securely into place – a mismatched voltage can damage your device even if the connector attaches. A replacement rated at a higher wattage than the original is safe to use, since your device only draws the current it needs; never go lower than the original wattage.
Inspect the cable and magnetic connector periodically for wear, and unplug the charger when it isn’t in use to help it last longer. If your Surface isn’t charging, check that the magnetic tip is properly seated and the indicator light (if present) is on before assuming the charger itself has failed.
